These are my current go-to cans for any and all things related to music 
Whether I’m recording or just chilling out and listening to some tunes while doing some other work these things are just great.
I picked these up just a couple of months ago based on some excellent reviews I’ve read from other people and I’d highly recommend them to anyone looking for a good pair of studio cans or just wanting to listen to their favorite album.

First off I love the mid-range response of these ATH-M50′s as that’s something I really look for when mixing down guitar work especially. It’s also great for listening to music as I find it gives the voices more depth, and enhances the sound overall – so many people seem to miss this when looking at new headphones.
The lows and highs are both excellent, crisp clear highs and nice bottom end that you’d sometimes swear was coming through a couple of subwoofers on your head
The other thing I love about these headphones has nothing to do with the sound but probably one of the more important parts is the fit! I have a LARGE head and I’ve found other models (particularly from BOSE) to be very tight on my ears and I couldn’t wear them for long periods of time – not the case for me with the ATH-M50′s
One thing that many reviewers have mentioned that I can also attest to is the fact that these headphones will sound better after they have been played in for awhile. After 40-50 hours of play-in the sound-stage is far more expansive and voices/instrument separation is that much clearer.

My Old Stand-Bys: KOSS PortaPro Headphones
These headphones have been around for 20 years at least! Which is a testament to how great they really are for the price.
At under $50 these are a really great option to have as a secondary headphones or as your primaries if you can’t afford a more expensive model.
While not quite comparable to the Audio-technica’s the PortaPros have a nice balanced sound that is perfect for mixing or listening to music.
The PortaPro’s are also REALLY good for gaming (Call of Duty!!!) and I use them all the time after my gf is asleep
